Ø       State and regional leader on NYS State ELA, Math, Science and Social Studies Assessments. Grades 4 & 8 outscored many local schools.

Ø       Increased number of Regents diplomas at high school; 51% at advanced recognition.

Ø       Increased number of A.P. offerings at the high school.

Ø       Finished in the top half of schools in our region at the Science Olympiad.

Ø       58% of all Regents exams have a pass rate of 89% and higher.

Ø       100% of our students take PSATs and SATs, only 1 of 9 districts in the region to do so.

Ø       All schools continue to make adequate yearly progress as defined by the State and NCLB.

Ø       Tuckahoe outscores similar schools as defined by the State and exceeds all State results.

Ø       Tuckahoe students continue to receive honors and recognition at local, state and regional academic competitions.

Ø       Tuckahoe Schools have become a model for other districts.  We have hosted a number of highly regarded districts wanting to observe our methods in ELA.

Ø       Tuckahoe High School students accepted to quality colleges, i.e., American University, Boston College, Boston University, Columbia University, Cornell, University of Delaware, Duke, Georgetown, University of Hartford, Johnson & Wales, Lehigh University, NYU, Northeastern, Northwestern, Penn State, Providence, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Wake Forest, Villanova, Tufts, Tulane, and Syracuse.

During the month of May, 2006, Tuckahoe hosted 10 school librarians from Southern Westchester public and private schools to promote and demonstrate:

·         Successful implementation of the use of electronic databases.

·         Tuckahoe’s collaborative research lesson plans utilizing a new platform.

·         Initiate a program of hosting/visiting librarians to share new ideas. Guests included:  New Rochelle High School, Edgemont High School, Rye Country Day School, Byram Hills High School, Blind Brook High School, Dobbs Ferry High School and Hackley School. 

 

Curriculum review and evaluation completed for ELA K-12; initiated for Math K-12.

 

Students from grades 2 through 8 participate in the Johns Hopkins University SAT Program.  One of our 8th graders was recognized with distinction (550 verbal; 540 math).

 

Cottle students and staff are working with the NYS Bar Association in developing a youth and citizen program.

 

Cottle School will continue with its affiliation with Teachers College, Columbia University in the implementation of the Columbia Reading and Writing Program. 

 

Cottle School and the Tuckahoe Middle School will initiate a K-8 program to enhance reading.  The Wilson Reading Program is a proven research-based program demonstrating outstanding results.

 

Our Tuckahoe students consistently produce results that distinguish them throughout the State and region:

·         Readers Digest Word Power Challenge – 1st Place, N.Y.

·         National Geographic Regional winner.

·         Jazz Band 1st Place, Washington D.C.

                                          2nd Place, Hershey Park, Pa.

The Tuckahoe High School implements a program for future business leaders.  The National Foundation to Teach Entrepreneurship (NFTE) has been in existence for three years.

 

Tuckahoe High School continues to offer to our graduating seniors internships for employment from New York City to Connecticut. 

 

Tuckahoe High School students earn college credit through a variety of A.P. and College courses.  One example of this is a student who earned 27 A.P. credits while at the high school.  This is the equivalent of approximately $30,000 in college tuition.

 

Our Music Department receives new Yamaha pianos each year at no cost to taxpayers.  This program is the result of a partnership with Concordia College.
