The Tuckahoe School District is implementing K12 Alerts, an automated telephone/email/text-to-cell message service, to inform you of a school emergency and other important notifications beginning in April 2008.

The service has three components: telephone calls, e-mail and text-to-cell messages. We will use each of them differently and you will need to give us your contact information for them differently.

Telephone Notification
As a first step in implementing the new service, the District has downloaded two (2) telephone numbers, per student, from our student information system.  The two telephones numbers downloaded are the student home telephone number and a parent alternate telephone number.  We plan to test the new service on Wednesday, April 30th, by sending out a district wide “test” telephone message, to each student, using both telephone numbers.  After the test, changes to one, or both, of the telephone numbers can be made by contacting the secretary in the appropriate building.

E-mail and Text-to-Cell Notification Sign up
Parents, Guardians, community members and staff who are interested in receiving notifications via e-mail and text messaging must subscribe by filling out a simple subscriber form that is now available on the Tuckahoe School District website, www.tuckahoeschools.org. People signed up for e-mail and text messaging notification to their cell phone will be able to maintain their own account, as necessary, 24/7, at their convenience and make changes online.

We plan to use this system for emergency situations.

WE WILL ALSO SEND MESSAGES on important district issues such as sex offender notifications, significant calendar changes, Parent programs, budget vote and school board candidate election information, etc. We plan to limit use of the service initially and build gradually.

Parents designate the e-mail addresses and text-to-cell numbers for this service online. You also can add/remove and update the contacts at your pleasure.
