NOTICE OF THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE TUCKAHOE UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT

To be eligible to vote, a person must be:

  • At least 18 years of age by May 21, 2021
  • A U.S. citizen
  • A resident of the school district for thirty (30) days or longer immediately preceding the vote and not otherwise prohibited from voting.

Qualified voters who are registered with the Westchester County Board of Elections are eligible to vote in school district elections.

If you are not registered to vote, you can:

  • Register with the Westchester County Board of Elections by mail at 25 Quarropas Street, White Plains, NY 10601.
  • Register remotely through the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles website at: https://dmv.ny.gov/more-info/electronic-voter-registration-application;
  • Register with the District Clerk on any school business day prior to May 12, 2021 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the District Clerk’s Office. Evening registration will take place on May 11, 2021 between the hours of 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. by appointment only.

The polls will be opened to vote by voting machine upon the following items:

  1. To adopt the annual budget of the School district for the 2021-2022 school year and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.
  2. To elect one (1) member of the Board of Education as follows:

One (1) three (3) year term commencing July 1, 2021 and expiring on June 30, 2024, to succeed member Cynthia Tait whose term expires on June 30, 2021.

  1. The following proposition:

 

BOND PROPOSITION

 

(a)        That the Board of Education of Tuckahoe Union Free School District, in the County of Westchester, New York (the “District”), is hereby authorized to construct alterations and improvements to all District school buildings and/or sites (the “Project”), substantially as described in a plan prepared by the District with the assistance of Kaeyer, Garment + Davidson, Architects (the “Plan”), which Plan is on file and available for public inspection at the office of the District Clerk; such Project to include, but not limited to, (i) the construction of alterations and improvements to the Cottle Elementary School, consisting of the construction of a building addition to provide for additional cafeteria space; interior reconstruction and space reconfiguration; renovation of toilet rooms; replacement of corridor ceilings; improvements to the fire alarm and ventilation systems; and the construction of exterior site improvements including outdoor play space construction and improvements to a multi-purpose field, including a walking path and the installation of synthetic turf and the relocation of a playground, at the estimated cost of $4,500,000; and (ii) the construction of alterations and improvements to the Tuckahoe Middle/High School consisting of interior reconstruction to provide for enhanced library and cafeteria space; interior upgrades and infrastructure work including hardwood floor replacement; exterior stair installation; masonry and lintel improvements; improvements to the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, ventilation, emergency lighting and fire alarm systems; the installation of new door security hardware; and the installation of toilet exhaust fans, at the estimated cost of $5,400,000; all of the foregoing to include the original furnishings, equipment, machinery, apparatus, and all ancillary and related site, demolition and other work required in connection therewith; and to expend therefor, including preliminary costs and costs incidental thereto and to the financing thereof, an amount not to exceed the estimated total cost of $9,900,000; provided that the estimated costs of the components of the Project as set forth herein and in detail in the Plan may be reallocated among such components if the Board of Education shall determine that such reallocation is in the best interests of the District;

(b)  that a $100,000 portion of such estimated total cost is hereby authorized to be provided from the District’s cafeteria fund;

(c)  that a tax is hereby voted in the aggregate amount of not to exceed $9,800,000 to finance the balance of said estimated total cost, such tax to be levied and collected in installments in such years and in such amounts as may be determined by said Board of Education, and that in anticipation of said tax, bonds of the District are hereby authorized to be issued in the aggregate principal amount of not to exceed $9,800,000 and a tax is hereby voted to pay the interest on said bonds as the same shall become due and payable; and

(d)  that the District expects to receive as reimbursement from the State of New York (the “State”) $44,795 under the Expanding our Children's Education and Learning (herein called “EXCEL”) State aid program, and such aid as and when received by the District shall be applied to offset and reduce the taxes hereby authorized.

Such Bond Proposition shall appear on the ballots used for voting at said Annual District Meeting and Election in substantially the following condensed form:
