New Superintendent Appointment

After a thorough search process for a new superintendent of the Tuckahoe Union Free School District, the Board of Education is pleased to announce that Ms. Amy Goodman was appointed as the district’s next Superintendent of Schools at its meeting on April 21, 2020.  Ms. Goodman is currently serving as Tuckahoe’s interim superintendent through the end of this school year. 

After appointing SWBOCES this fall to conduct a superintendent search, the Board of Education gathered community input through forums and surveys then launched a full-scale nationwide search.  From a pool of over 30 qualified candidates, three finalists emerged and were interviewed by various stakeholders within the community, including representatives of the teaching and non-teaching staff, parents, and students.  Ms. Goodman’s extensive experience in education, in-depth knowledge of pupil personnel, record of innovative approaches and positive leadership made her the clear forerunner. 

Ms. Goodman is an experienced school administrator having served as the Superintendent of Greenburgh-Graham Union Free School District, Assistant Superintendent of Pupil Personnel for Eastchester UFSD and most recently as Interim Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services for New Rochelle Schools. She first came to Tuckahoe as Interim Director of Special Education in the summer of 2019 and transitioned to Interim Superintendent in December 2019.  As Interim Superintendent of Schools, she has managed the issues relating to the school closure orders, implementation of distance learning, and the other requirements placed on school districts by the State. Additionally, she has worked with the Board on the on-going construction projects, budget development, and labor relations issues, providing stewardship on each of these areas. Her existing familiarity with the Tuckahoe schools and community make her uniquely qualified to lead our District at this critical moment.  

The selection of Ms. Goodman represents the culmination of an eight month process, but also, the commencement of what the Board believes will be a period of administrative stability for the District in an educational world that will be extremely challenging. The board is confident in her ability to keep our district moving forward, especially given the tough tasks ahead.


  • **NEW** Finalists for the position of Superintendent of Schools for the Tuckahoe Union Free School District will be interviewed by a committee composed of various constituent groups including community members. The Board of Education would like to invite all community members to enter a lottery for 5 open seats on this interview committee.

    Please note that the role of those selected to the committee will be to meet with candidates, provide feedback on their replies to interview questions, and share responses with the Board of Education for their consideration as they make the decision on a final candidate.

    To participate, you must: 
    -Be a resident of Tuckahoe UFSD
    -Be available on March 9, 10 AND 12 from 9:30am-10:30am (it is important that you be able to make ALL of these dates/times for the integrity of the interview process)

    The Tuckahoe Union Free School District Board of Education is beginning its search for the next Superintendent of Schools and has appointed Dr. Harold A. Coles, District Superintendent of Southern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) to conduct our nationwide search for qualified candidates. The profile for the superintendent position will be developed collaboratively with involvement by community, faculty and school group representatives.

    With the advice of Dr. Coles, the Board of Education has developed a timeline and outlined steps to ensure a hiring process that allows for significant community feedback and that brings the most highly-qualified pool of candidates to interview in Tuckahoe. One of the first steps is to develop a Superintendent Profile. The Board is seeking community views concerning the qualities that are most important in a new superintendent. Interested members of the Tuckahoe community and school community can complete and submit an online survey by accessing the following link which will be available through January 10:

    In addition, school district community stakeholders (administrators, faculty, staff, PTA & students) and community forum meetings will be held with Dr. Coles. A public forum for all interested community members will be held at 6pm on December 13, 2019 in the Tuckahoe Middle School/High School Auditorium. A second public forum will be offered at 6:30pm on January 9, 2020 in the Tuckahoe Middle School/High School Library.

    The Board is requesting that all community members take the time to provide their thoughts and contribute to the development of criteria for best-fit candidates. This will assist the Board and Dr. Coles in identifying top candidates for the District.

    Along with the opportunities for community input, the Board will provide regular updates on the progress of the selection process at Board meetings, as well as on the school district website.
