Tuckahoe, In This Together

Leah Charity-Spriggs

Eighth grader Leah Charity-Spriggs has made a commitment throughout the year to service and citizenship. As part of her NJHS volunteer hours she created the Socks and Underwear drive at Cottle and TMS, where she was successful in reaching her goal of collecting over 2,000 pairs with the awesome help from the Tuckahoe community. In the winter she provided holiday care packages, and now in this pandemic she has  also recently distributed to a local Family Children's Services of Westchester unit. Leah has purchased, bagged and delivered personal care items along with puzzles, games, adult coloring books and toiletries. These items were delivered to both of FCS's under 21 group homes. They were very grateful and appreciative of her #TuckahoeStrong heart!

I would like to give a great shout out to all the teachers, custodians, admins, secretaries and aides of this great community.  Our new norm. is still not so normal but the kids, parents and teachers have all had to adapt.  Thank you for continuing your service even afar and on the internet.  Kudos to all that have taken on Zoom to continue to teach and support our children.  We have all had to adapt and continue to conquer.

Another shout out is to my son- Andrew.  Andrew had needed to step up while both of his parents continue to work.  Mom- is a RN and doing 12 hour shift (she regularly works 8 hrs and no weekends).  Working now both days and nights.  And Dad is a Fire fighter.  Andrew will make dinner at least 2x a week.

“Help cheer up our Vovo (Grandma) with cards, art, and groceries. Our mom helped us order groceries and pick them up in front of the store. Then we went to
leave them at Vovo’s doorstep to surprise her. We wore masks!”
